Mexican Motorcycle Manoeuvres

Welcome to our latest motorcycle blog.

This trip came about somewhat out of the blue. We had not planned any winter holiday this year because Nan had planned to spend a month at the coast, which I figured she deemed "her holiday", but before her departure, she asked me what we were going to do. Notwithstanding that Nan works only two days per week, she is sensitive about asking for an inordinate amount of time away from the vet clinic, so I had assumed we would be saving some money this winter.

Then, while touring the motorcycle show in January, we met a Canadian with a booth, and he runs a little motorcycle tour business in Mexico and on an impulse, we signed up. http://www.ridethesierra.com/
The timing worked out; Nan only had to ask for two days away and I managed to squeeze it into what has been a very busy winter for me at work.

So, we are leaving early tomorrow morning, obscenely early in fact (6:00 a.m. flight) to Mazatlan, where we will spend a few nights with Nan's brother Steve and his lovely Mexican wife Adrianna before heading on down to Guadalajara by bus, to be collected by the tour people and whisked down to Ajijic. We should be in Ajijic later on Tuesday afternoon.

As far as motorcycle trips go, this will be a short one for us. In fact, it is what the tour people call a "hub and spoke" tour http://ridethesierra.com/tours/hub_and_spoke  as we will be stationed at one hotel in Ajijic and rather than doing a "tour" as in our usual routine, we will simply be doing day trips, returning to the same hotel each night. While we are less likely to cover large distances, we are also going to avoid the daily grind of packing and unpacking a lot of gear into very tiny compartments. This will be relative luxury. Especially as we won't be staying in The Flea Bag, our usual motorcycle abode.

So, I will be posting a few updates before the tour, but bookmark this link and follow along with us.  I will be turning on the Spot Tracking Device as soon as we hit Mazatlan, so you will be able to monitor our movements for the whole trip:

OK, so that is the introduction! Hopefully, we will be able to find some adventure (but not too much) while in Mexico.
